A woman was crossing Woodman Avenue on Saturday night when an LAPD car with its lights and sirens on hit and killed her, police said.

The officer was on the way to back up colleagues at a Halloween house party on Weddington Street in Sherman Oaks, ABC7 reported. Police had gotten a "shots fired" call there just after 10:30 p.m. and arrived to a crowd of about 300. The woman, 32, died at the scene. Her name hasn't been released.

The Los Angeles Police Department said she was in a crosswalk when a unit from its North Hollywood Station struck her, MyNewsLA reported, though CBS News Los Angeles said it's unclear whether she was in the street or a crosswalk. The department put the crash in the 6100 block of Woodman Avenue, near Bessemer Street, at about 11:30 p.m. That's roughly an hour after the first call about the party.

The Los Angeles Fire Department also responded to the crash, FOX 11 reported. ABC7 placed the stretch of Woodman between Bessemer and Erwin streets in Valley Glen, while FOX 11 called the area Valley Village.

The outlets describe the party call in different ways. ABC7 reported a "shots fired" call but said it's unclear whether a gun was found. CBS News Los Angeles, citing the LAPD, said officers were answering reports of a fight in a large group. FOX 11, reporting from the scene, said 911 callers had been complaining that the party was rowdy.

ABC7 reported no injuries at the party, which officers eventually emptied.

A neighbor who heard the impact told ABC7 they saw "one cop car in the middle of the street, sideways," an officer standing a few feet from the curb and the woman lying in the roadway.

It rained Saturday, and both FOX 11 and MyNewsLA said it wasn't clear whether wet roads played a part.
