Two Shot Dead at a Private Party Near Cal State Northridge
A man and a woman, both 18 to 25, died at a Nordhoff Street lounge. Police said no arrests had been made.

A man and a woman were shot dead late Friday at a private party in a Northridge strip mall near Cal State Northridge. Both were between 18 and 25, police said.
Officers had come to shut the party down. They were telling its organizers to wrap it up when they heard several shots and saw people running, Los Angeles police told CBS News Los Angeles. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police placed the shooting at the Artist Lounge, on the 18000 block of Nordhoff Street, about half a mile from the campus. They told CBS the party was private and had been promoted on social media. ABC7's helicopter, hovering near Nordhoff Street and Reseda Boulevard, showed firefighters and several police cruisers outside the mall.
The same footage showed dozens of people in handcuffs, lined up after apparently being walked out of the lounge. They were detained, not arrested. Police said no arrests had been made, and NBC Los Angeles, citing police, reported that several people were detained. Police hadn't released a description of a suspect, ABC7 reported.
Police haven't said why anyone opened fire. The two accounts they gave differ on timing: officers were sent just after 11 p.m. on October 2 over a big party, police told ABC7, while CBS reported that they got there around 11:30 p.m. after a call about a loud party.
The count of the dead also shifted overnight. NBC Los Angeles' first report, posted at 11:48 p.m. Friday, said one person had died and mentioned a stabbing along with the shootings. The police account CBS carried on Saturday morning described two people killed by gunfire and didn't mention a stabbing.
It wasn't clear early Saturday whether anyone else had been hurt. Officers were still searching for a possible third victim, police told CBS News Los Angeles.
