The next chance for the general public to buy tickets to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics comes in 2027, on a first-come, first-served basis. That is the organizing committee's own wording, posted in the ticketing block on la28.org and read here on August 25, 2026. No opening date for that window appears in the text.

First come, first served means the order of arrival decides who buys. For anyone in Los Angeles who watched this year's sales close without a ticket, that is the whole change: the next attempt will be a queue, not a wait for a result.

What LA28 has put in writing

The ticketing block is short and specific. “The next opportunity for the general public to purchase LA28 Olympics tickets will be in 2027 and they will be available on a first-come, first-served basis,” it reads, adding that Paralympic tickets also go on sale in 2027. The same block states that Drop 2 was the last general public ticket drop of 2026.

The announcement behind that language is dated August 21, 2026 on LA28's own news index, under the headline “Record Demand Sets the Stage for First-Come, First-Served LA28 Olympic Ticket Sales to Open in 2027.” The headline and the date are confirmed on the committee's page. The body text of the release is not: every path tried under la28.org for the article and for a news index returned a 404, so nothing from inside the release is quoted here.

The 6 million figure, and who is carrying it

The sales total does not appear in any LA28 text readable here. It comes from Secret Los Angeles, which reported on August 24, 2026 that total ticket sales had crossed 6 million after the close of Drop 2 and an accompanying Visa presale, leaving most of the initial inventory sold. Read it as that outlet's account of the LA28 announcement rather than as a committee figure.

The same report says LA28 has not set an opening date for the 2027 sales, and that the 2027 round carries no purchase limits.

LA28's index dates the release August 21, 2026. Secret Los Angeles dates the announcement to “last Thursday,” which was August 20.

What is not confirmed

Prices are the gap worth naming. No price, price band or fee structure for the 2027 window appears in the LA28 ticketing text read here, and none is asserted in this story. Any figure circulating for a 2028 Games ticket should be traced to a posted LA28 page before it is treated as a commitment.
