Samsonite Group has agreed to buy 85% of the Los Angeles travel and luggage brand BÉIS for $178.5 million, the Los Angeles technology newsletter dot.LA reported on August 14, 2026. That price puts a value of roughly $210 million on the whole company. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter, pending regulatory approval.

Anyone whose paycheck comes from the Los Angeles operation gets one answer out of the announcement: the brand keeps its name and its management. Chief Executive Adeela Hussain Johnson and the existing team stay on, and BÉIS runs as a standalone business under Samsonite. Staffing and office plans weren't disclosed.

This isn't a clean exit for the founder. Shay Mitchell, the actress and entrepreneur who started the brand, holds onto a 15% stake and continues to steer creative and product decisions, dot.LA reported.

BÉIS launched in 2018 out of Beach House Group, a Los Angeles brand incubator, and grew from a direct-to-consumer luggage startup into a profitable business. It booked about $210 million in sales last year, the outlet reported. Set that beside the $210 million valuation and the buyer is paying about one year of sales for the company.

What Samsonite gets, in dot.LA's reading of the deal, is less about suitcases than about the customer list behind them: a younger and largely female buyer base, a direct-to-consumer machine, and a brand that turns social media attention into orders. The buyer brings global distribution, sourcing and logistics — the unglamorous plumbing a digitally native brand otherwise has to rent or build.

Regulatory approval comes first.

Until that clears and the transaction closes in the fourth quarter, BÉIS remains an independently held Los Angeles company, and Samsonite is a buyer with a signed agreement and a date to hit.
