UCLA Just Made Student Football Tickets Free. The Old Pass Cost $199.

UCLA students can get into home football and basketball games free this season, in place of a $199 pass, the athletic department announced Wednesday. The offer from UCLA Athletics covers regular-season home games in football, men's basketball and women's basketball for 2026-27, KTLA reported.

The pass used to be the gate. A student either spent $199 up front or watched the season from somewhere other than a seat, and for anyone splitting rent near campus that's a real line in the fall budget. Now the money goes to zero and the effort moves onto the calendar, because a free seat still has to be claimed.

Here's the mechanism, per the outlet: eligible UCLA undergraduate and graduate students claim complimentary football tickets through their student ticket account, and the window opens the Monday of each game week. Registration for the September 19, 2026 home football game against Purdue opened the day of the announcement.

The scope is narrower than "UCLA sports." Three programs are named — football, men's basketball, women's basketball — and only regular-season home games. Road games, postseason and every other varsity sport on campus sit outside what UCLA Athletics described.

The arithmetic is worth doing slowly. The $199 Den Pass bought access to home football and home men's basketball; the free version covers those two and adds women's basketball, which means the price fell to nothing and the coverage widened at the same time. That's not the usual direction for a college athletics price change.

Some fine print isn't settled in public yet: KTLA's account doesn't address a per-game service charge, a no-show penalty, or what happens to a student who already bought the 2026-27 pass.

For students who want in on the next home football date, the step is the same one every week: open the student ticket account on the Monday of game week and claim the seat before the inventory goes.
