Ubisoft Is Shutting Down Rainbow Six Mobile Months After Its Global Launch
The free-to-play shooter stays playable until Jan. 15, 2027, and one more season still arrives next week as planned.

Anyone with Rainbow Six Mobile on their phone has 14 weeks left to play it.
Ubisoft will shut down the free-to-play tactical shooter on Jan. 15, 2027, the game's developers said in a message posted to Ubisoft's site, VGC reported Friday. The game had been in soft launch since 2023 and only went worldwide in February, so its global run won't reach a full year.
Players aren't cut off yet. One more season still lands next week as planned, and the team promised more updates in the coming weeks to help people get ready for the shutdown. The message doesn't say what happens to anything players bought in the game.
The note gives one line to the people who made it: "our team will move on to other long-term strategic projects." It doesn't name the projects or say whether everyone on the team goes with them.
That's a quiet ending for a long build. When Ubisoft revealed Rainbow Six Mobile in April 2022, VGC reported it had already been in the works for three years. A new team at Ubisoft Montreal led the work, with help from studios including Winnipeg, Kyiv and Shanghai.
The pitch was Rainbow Six Siege on a phone: five-on-five attack-and-defense rounds, walls you can blow through, and Siege maps like Bank and Border. The developers said at the time that they'd rebuilt all of it from scratch for mobile.
Add it up and the game took roughly seven years to reach a worldwide launch, and it'll get less than one year of worldwide play. Counting the soft launch, it shipped 15 seasons, the team said.
The game it came from is getting a very different speech. Siege is 11 years old now, and its new creative director, Joshua Mills, told The Game Business in September that players who stick with it while Grand Theft Auto 6 launches will be served "like kings and queens," VGC reported.
"We don't go on vacation just because a competitor is swelling the market," Mills said.
Siege's loyal players got a promise of royal treatment. Rainbow Six Mobile's got one more season and a date.
