LA Pride threw its 56th annual parade through Hollywood in June, honoring grand marshals Jeff Hiller, activist Mia Yamamoto, and the late Shirley Raines, founder of the nonprofit Beauty 2 the Streetz, per LAmag's June coverage.

Raines' posthumous honor was the right call in a month full of them: her work handing dignity — hair, makeup, hot meals — to unhoused Angelenos on Skid Row was Los Angeles at its most practical and most humane. A parade that puts that legacy at the front of the route understands what the celebration is for.
