Jonathan Taylor Thomas Was Booked in Westlake Village. He Wasn't the Driver.

The sheriff's department says the 45-year-old 'Home Improvement' actor kicked a deputy during a DUI stop on another driver.

Jonathan Taylor Thomas, the ‘Home Improvement’ actor, was arrested in Westlake Village on September 21, 2026, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. He was a passenger, not the driver, in a car deputies approached about 12:30 a.m. at Westlake Boulevard and Townsgate Road, NBC Los Angeles reported, citing the department's statement.

The stop started as a courtesy. Deputies pulled alongside a car that was sitting at a green light and blocking traffic, to see whether the driver needed help, and the driver appeared intoxicated, ABC7 reported from the same statement.

Thomas, 45, wasn't behind the wheel. While deputies ran field sobriety tests on the driver, the department said, he “appeared intoxicated, continually exited the vehicle and approached the deputies, distracting them from their investigation,” in the statement quoted by NBC Los Angeles. When deputies moved to detain him, the department says, he kicked a deputy in the stomach.

The driver was arrested too, on suspicion of driving under the influence, ABC7 reported. The driver hasn't been identified.

Thomas was taken to the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station in Agoura Hills, according to ABC7 and to the Los Angeles Times, whose account was syndicated by Yahoo. The booking listed two suspected offenses: felony obstruction and public intoxication, in the department's wording as reported by NBC Los Angeles. The Times, reading booking records, described a felony-level charge. In the sheriff's account his legal name is Jonathan Taylor Thomas Weiss.

The department's Malibu/Lost Hills station gave KTLA the same outline: a DUI investigation, a passenger who deputies say wouldn't cooperate and then resisted. That's the department's characterization of what happened, not a court's.
