Dark Stretch of Venice's Ocean Front Walk Has Its Lights Back
The outage reached Councilwoman Traci Park's office and Rec and Parks, which called in the city's Bureau of Street Services.

A stretch of Venice's Ocean Front Walk that had gone dark is lit again. A group of broken lights came back on the night of Oct. 22, Yo! Venice reported Monday. Fran Solomon, who lives at the beach and chairs the Venice Neighborhood Council's Ocean Front Walk committee, confirmed that evening that they were working.
The fix took about three weeks and a short chain of calls. According to Yo! Venice, the outage was flagged in early October to Sean Silva and Sophie Morris, two staffers for Councilwoman Traci Park, and to Sonya Young-Jimenez of the city's Department of Recreation and Parks. Young-Jimenez then got the Bureau of Street Services to make the repair.
Solomon thanked all three and said the staffers "work very hard to keep our community safe," Yo! Venice reported. She said they were getting things done "as we prepare for the 2028 Summer Olympics."
That's coming to Venice. LA28 plans to award the Games' first medals in the women's triathlon at Venice Beach. Organizers said Sept. 23 that the cyclists will ride the Venice bike path and pass the Venice sign, and the runners will cross the canal bridges.
The beach won't have to wait until 2028 to see it. LA28 says athletes will race the same courses at a World Triathlon event in Venice from July 16 to July 18, 2027, a test of whether the course and the operation are ready.
