Braves Fans Booed Freddie Freeman. Now He's One Win From Ousting Them.
Freeman has homered in each of the last two NLDS games, and Tyler Glasnow starts Game 4 at Truist Park at 3 p.m. PT.

Braves fans booed Freddie Freeman on Tuesday. He hit a 399-foot home run off Chris Sale anyway, and now the Dodgers are one win from ending Atlanta's season.

The Dodgers won Game 3 of the National League Division Series 3-1, the Los Angeles Times reported, and lead the best-of-five series 2-1. Game 4 is Wednesday at Truist Park, first pitch 6 p.m. Eastern, which is 3 p.m. in L.A., according to the Associated Press preview. Tyler Glasnow starts for the Dodgers against Tyler Mahle, and a Dodgers win sends them to the NLCS.
The boos come with a backstory. Atlanta took Freeman, an Orange County kid out of El Modena High, in the second round of the 2007 draft, and he spent 12 years in the organization. Then contract talks stalled, the Braves pulled their offer and traded for Matt Olson. The Dodgers signed Freeman to a six-year, $162 million deal in 2022.
L.A. has gotten its money's worth. There was the 10th-inning walk-off grand slam against the Yankees in the World Series, and the walk-off solo shot that ended last year's 18-inning World Series game against Toronto. Tuesday's homer was his fifth in the postseason at Truist Park, and the first one he's hit there against the Braves instead of for them.
It also put him in the record book. The Times noted that his eight lefty-on-lefty home runs are the most in MLB playoff history. It was his 18th career postseason homer, nine of them as a Dodger. That moved him back ahead of teammate Kiké Hernández, who'd hit his 17th, a two-run shot, two batters earlier.
Not long ago that kind of power looked gone. Freeman homered once in his last 66 regular-season games. He's homered twice in three NLDS games, counting a solo shot off Grant Holmes that tied Sunday's Game 2 at 1-1 before the Dodgers lost. During the bye week, he said, video showed his shoulders were turned too far. "All I really did was open my shoulders a couple inches," the 37-year-old said after Game 3.
It nearly went better than that. Braves left fielder Mauricio Dubón took a second homer away from him in the third inning with a running, leaping catch at the wall. Freeman then ended the game with his glove, scooping a tough throw from shortstop Mookie Betts to beat Mike Yastrzemski and leave Ozzie Albies stranded at third.
The Dodgers' account on X took a shot at the crowd: "Brave of you to boo Freddie."
Freeman told reporters that from the field, the crowd was mostly just noise. "I've got a gray uniform on, I expect boos. It's OK," he said, according to the Times.
On Wednesday, Atlanta gets another nine innings to boo him. If the Dodgers win, that's the last chance it gets this year. His message for the place that let him go stayed the same: "It's all love. I still love everybody here."
