A Malibu blanket company that has made Oprah's Favorite Things more than 10 times is building a store on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica.

Work on the shop has already started, Barefoot Dreams' director of stores, David Barton, told What Now Los Angeles. He said early 2027 is the likeliest opening, though it could open as soon as the end of this year.

It'll sell at full price, and the company doesn't run many stores like that. Its own store locator lists one, the flagship on Civic Center Way in Malibu. Its other two stores are outlets, in Camarillo and in Carlsbad, where a shop at Carlsbad Premium Outlets opened Tuesday. That's a small footprint for a brand Annette Cook started 32 years ago, which began with children's products before it became known for robes, throws and those blankets.

People buy it at Nordstrom or Bloomingdale's. Barton told What Now the company's own stores let it reach customers without the department stores in between. "We're planning on expanding our retail," he told What Now, and he said more full-price and outlet stores are being considered for San Diego and Orange counties.
