20 L.A. County Starbucks Stores Appear Set to Close

Starbucks is cutting about 250 North American stores, and these Los Angeles County locations show no operating hours left.

Twenty Starbucks stores in Los Angeles County, from Santa Monica to Azusa, list no hours after Saturday evening, Sept. 26. That comes from a Secret Los Angeles review of Starbucks' store listings, published Monday by Sofia Delpueche.

They're the local share of a much bigger cut. Starbucks is shutting about 250 stores in North America under a plan it calls "Back to Starbucks." That's roughly 1% of its more than 18,000 coffeehouses there.

How the L.A. list was built matters. Secret L.A. says the 20 stores "were identified as scheduled to close after their store listings showed no operating hours beyond Saturday evening, September 26." It isn't a list Starbucks handed out, and it doesn't come from a state layoff notice. No store-by-store closing dates have been published.

The Los Angeles Times has reported a different count, 36 stores. The addresses below are Secret L.A.'s 20.

If one of these is your stop on the way to work, pull it up in the Starbucks app or the store locator before you head over. I'd treat a week of blank hours as a goodbye.

The 20 locations

Six of the 20 carry a Los Angeles address.

Santa Monica has two on the list, one on Wilshire Boulevard and one on Main Street. The Valley shows up in Burbank, Chatsworth, North Hollywood and Panorama City.

Why these stores

Starbucks says it picked stores where it couldn't consistently deliver the experience it wants, or where it saw no path to acceptable financial results. Secret L.A.'s account draws on reporting from SFGATE, the Los Angeles Times and the Associated Press.

The company expects about $300 million in restructuring charges. That covers lease costs and separation benefits for employees, and Starbucks says workers will be offered transfers where possible, with severance also part of the package.

Most of the roughly 250 closures are expected to be finished by the end of Starbucks' 2026 fiscal year.
