Susan Wood has owned Ye Rustic Inn, the Los Feliz strip-mall dive people go to for wings, since 1999. Now she says she's "looking at laying people off before Christmas," as she told The California Post.

The bar's outdoor patio is scheduled to be removed Nov. 2, and the Post reported that the lease on the Hillhurst Avenue spot runs out within weeks. Wood keeps asking to renew, she told the Post, and for the most part the landlord hasn't answered. She said the landlord blames insurance concerns for taking out the patio.

The staff took it to the neighborhood. In an Instagram post Tuesday they told regulars the bar needed them, and Wood asked people to gather outside Wednesday evening for a "circle of hope and unity," a peaceful show of how much the place means to the people who drink and work there. Wood told the Post she hoped the turnout might finally get the landlord talking.

Nothing's final. The bar, open since the 1970s, hasn't announced a closing, and losing the patio doesn't end service indoors. But the staff's post laid out what's at stake: to some it's just a bar, and to others it's "a place to gather, their job, and where some of their best memories are held."
