The Best Bagels in L.A., Ranked. Boichik Comes in Last.
Courage Bagels leads with a 9.0 from The Infatuation, and Boichik, the Bay Area import, trails the four at 6.7.

Boichik Bagels keeps growing in L.A. It has a store in Los Feliz and one in downtown's Bradbury Building, and a third is reportedly headed for Westwood Village. It's also the shop I'd put last of the four below, because The Infatuation gave it a 6.7, the lowest score in the group.
The order follows The Infatuation's scores, and every quote about taste belongs to its critics, with the date. Hours and prices come from each shop's own website as posted Thursday. Bagel prices appear on just one of those sites.
1. Courage Bagels, Virgil Village: 9.0
The Infatuation's July 2022 review didn't hedge: it called Courage the best bagel shop in Los Angeles. It describes a Montreal-inspired bagel, smaller, thinner and sweeter than the East Coast kind, that comes out "almost charred." Courage sells its prepared bagels in halves, and the review's suggestion is to split the order: Hand-Sliced Smoked Salmon on sesame for one half, and Run It Through the Garden for the other, a pile of tomatoes, cucumbers, capers and lemon on the burnt everything bagel.
Getting one takes effort. The review mentioned a 45-minute wait. Courage's website lists the walk-up window at 777 N. Virgil Ave. as open Thursday through Monday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., but the same site also mentions a weekends-only soft opening. There's no phone, just an email address, couragebagels@gmail.com. Prices aren't posted.
2. Belle's Delicatessen, Highland Park: 8.2
Belle's has the newest score here, from an Aug. 17 review that praises its bagel sandwiches, latkes and pickle martinis, according to The Infatuation. It's also the only shop of the four that's open at night. Belle's posts on its website morning hours until 3 p.m. every day, then reopens at 5 p.m. until 10, or until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, at 5022 York Blvd.
Bagels are sold one at a time, by the half dozen or by the dozen, but the posted menu lists no prices.
3. Maury's Bagels, Silver Lake–Echo Park: 8.0
Courage wasn't the first shop The Infatuation crowned. In January 2022, six months before the Courage review, the same outlet called Maury's the best bagel spot in town. That review describes bagels that are "soft and chewy, but not so springy that you're going to sprain your jaw." Its favorite order was the Lox, and it suggested the Labneh, with tomato, cucumber and za'atar, for anyone skipping fish.
According to the shop's website, Maury's makes sourdough bagels at 2829 Bellevue Ave., which the shop places on the border of Silver Lake and Echo Park. It closes earliest of the four: 1 p.m. on weekdays and 2 p.m. on weekends, opening at 7 a.m. every day. The phone is 323-800-0034. Prices aren't posted.
4. Boichik Bagels, Los Feliz and Downtown: 6.7
The Infatuation's March 2025 review of the Los Feliz store found "puffy bagels that have a crunchy exterior but are a bit too dense," according to its bagel index. That's a long way from the 9.0 at the top of this list.
Boichik makes up some of that gap in convenience. Both stores, at 4655 Hollywood Blvd. and 304 S. Broadway, are open every day from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the company says on its website. It's also the only one of the four that posts prices: $3.25 a bagel, $4.25 for gluten-free, and 25 cents off each one once an order reaches a dozen.
The Westwood store isn't open. The Westside blog Toddrickallen.com reported on Aug. 31 that Boichik is taking a space at 911 Westwood Blvd.
So the scores and the convenience point in opposite directions. The 9.0 sells from a window four days a week. The 6.7 is open every morning in two neighborhoods, with a third reportedly on the way.
