Faye, the wife whose death set Kratos' Norse saga in motion, now has to wait three more months for her own game. On Wednesday, Santa Monica Studio, Sony's L.A. studio, moved God of War Laufey from Feb. 16 to May 20, Engadget reported. It's still a PlayStation 5 exclusive.

In a social media post, the studio thanked fans for their excitement since the June reveal and said it would spend the extra time on finishing touches and "pushing the game to its fullest potential." The post didn't name a specific problem. It said the team would share more updates soon.

Here's what that does to the countdown. On Wednesday, Feb. 16 was 104 days away. May 20 is 197 days out, so the wait nearly doubled. Variety reported that pre-orders opened Sept. 29, with a special armor set, a cosmetic look and a resource pack for buying early. That means the earliest buyers had about five weeks with the February date.

Engadget's take on the calendar is that the move gets Laufey away from a packed start to next year and from Sony's own Until Dawn 2, which arrives Jan. 28. Sony usually puts out each year's MLB The Show in March, too. Engadget notes that with this delay, Sony has at least one of its own big games in the spring quarter of 2027.

The game picks up after Faye's death, which happens just before God of War's 2018 reboot opens. She wakes up in the Everywhen, an afterlife of the gods, and her story runs alongside what Kratos and Atreus were doing in the two Norse games. Game Informer reported that her two sidekicks, a gelatinous cube and a sword sash, can both talk, and that the three of them take on monsters drawn from several mythologies.

So the talking cube has until May to work on its lines.
