Activision Says Modern Warfare 4 Ends the Current Modern Warfare Series
Activision's marketing chief says a new series follows the Korea-set shooter, which hits PS5, Xbox, PC and Switch 2 on Oct. 23.

Digital preorder buyers could start Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's campaign Friday, and Activision's marketing chief says they're playing an ending.
Tyler Bahl, Activision's chief marketing officer, told The Game Business that the game will be "the epic conclusion of this recent series of Modern Warfare," Videogameschronicle.com reported Friday. He wouldn't spoil how it gets there. He did say a new series comes next, and that some characters could carry over in a new form.
Activision's official game page puts the full launch on Oct. 23 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Anyone who preorders or buys a digital edition before then gets the campaign early. In the story, North Korea invades the South and a young South Korean squad holds a crumbling front line, while Captain Price runs his own revenge mission. The Switch 2 version, built for the console by Infinity Ward with Digital Legends, is the series' first on a Nintendo console in more than a decade, Activision says.
Why something new? Bahl described an audience pulling every which way: Zombies loyalists, the Black Ops-versus-Modern Warfare crowd, and Prop Hunt players who, he told The Game Business, are "a refrigerator and they're hiding in the map someplace." Whatever Activision builds next has to sell to all of them, fridges included.
