Porto's Bakery Is Finally Coming to the Inland Empire
The Cuban bakery will be part of an 8.6-acre project at Archibald Avenue and Inland Empire Boulevard in Ontario, opening as soon as 2028.

The people the Porto family meets at its bakery counters keep telling it the same thing: they came in from the Inland Empire, or from even farther out. Now the family is building those customers a Porto's of their own in Ontario, set to open as soon as 2028.
Porto's Bakery & Café teased its first Inland Empire shop in an Instagram video Tuesday, then confirmed it in a press release alongside Ontario city officials, CBS Los Angeles reported. The Los Angeles Times also covered the expansion Wednesday. "Many of them tell me they come from the Inland Empire or further out, so we really can't wait to get here," the family said in the video, Fox 11 reported.
It's a long way from one kitchen. Porto's traces back to Rosa Porto's kitchen in Cuba, Fox 11 reported, and CBS reported that the business she founded in 1960 still leans on Cuban classics like the potato ball and the cheese roll, alongside cakes, pastries, coffee and breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Right now there are six Porto's: the original in Glendale, plus Burbank, Northridge, Downey, Buena Park and West Covina, according to Fox 11. A seventh is under construction at Downtown Disney. That makes Ontario the eighth, and the first one planned for the crowd that's been driving in.
The new store will sit on the southwest corner of Archibald Avenue and Inland Empire Boulevard, near the city's Capital City Entertainment District, as part of an 8.6-acre commercial project, according to Ontario city officials, CBS reported. Three buildings will hold about 50,000 square feet of restaurant, café and retail space, tied together by a landscaped outdoor plaza, ABC7 reported.
In a statement reported by CBS, Ontario City Manager Scott Ochoa said the city has been "working to bring Porto's to our community for nearly a decade." He pointed to the bakery's regional following and said businesses like it give residents and visitors more reasons to stick around town. Nearly a decade is a long time to court one bakery, and given who's already making the drive, I get it.
Don't get in line yet. CBS reported that work on the site should begin in 2027, and Fox 11 reported that no official opening date has been announced. "For years, we've met families from across the Inland Empire who have made the trip to visit our bakeries," Beatriz "Betty" Porto, an owner and the bakery's vice president of community affairs, said in a statement reported by CBS. Those families, she said, hoped Porto's "would one day be closer to home."
