Dunkin', Krispy Kreme and Circle K have free cups too, but most want an app, a rewards account or a purchase first.

A medium drip coffee costs 25 cents at Peet's Coffee on Tuesday, Sept. 29, National Coffee Day, according to a deals roundup KTLA published. The list was written by Adrienne Mitchel for SavorNation and syndicated by the station. It isn't KTLA's own local reporting.

Most of the rest are free cups with strings attached. Some want you to buy something. Some want an app and a rewards account. One wanted you signed up before the day even started.

Here's how the offers sort, from the least work to the most. The roundup didn't list hours for any of them, so check the chain's app for your nearest store before you drive.

No app mentioned

Peet's Coffee: a medium drip for a quarter. The roundup names no app, rewards or purchase requirement for it. If you want the cheapest cup with the fewest hoops, that's the one I'd send a friend to first.

Buy anything, get a cup

Krispy Kreme: a free small or medium coffee, hot or iced, with any purchase. The chain also has a coffee-flavored take on its Original Glazed Doughnut, and if you buy any dozen, a second dozen of those runs $5. Both of those end Tuesday. Krispy Kreme's own promos page showed only its fall menu on Tuesday, so don't count on finding the Coffee Day offer there.

Caribou Coffee: order any drink and you get a free medium hot coffee or cold brew on top of it.

Download the app first

Dunkin': a free medium coffee, hot or iced, with any purchase. The catch is that it's only for rewards members ordering through the Dunkin' app. The roundup says the chain is also rolling out a product with L.L.Bean on Tuesday, and Dunkin's newsroom announced an L.L.Bean fall blend on Sept. 21.

Circle K: members of its Inner Circle Rewards program can unlock a free medium coffee, hot or iced, inside the Circle K app.

Dunn Brothers Coffee: a free small brewed coffee or cold brew, which the roundup says you can claim through the app or by asking for it.

Brooklyn Water Bagel: registered rewards members get a free 16-ounce hot coffee or a 24-ounce Cubsta, and they don't have to buy anything. But you had to register before Tuesday.

If you didn't, that one's gone.

The names that aren't here

Starbucks and 7-Eleven didn't appear in the roundup. If a Coffee Day deal from either one is going around, it didn't come from this list.

The one that outlasts today

Miss Tuesday entirely? DQ's small Coffee Coolers are $3 through Nov. 1, the roundup says.
