'No Trains Will Operate': Pacific Surfliner Shuts Down Sept. 12-13

The Los Angeles stop goes dark too, and no bus bridge is posted to replace the trains that weekend.

Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner stops for a full weekend this month: no trains on Saturday, September 12 or Sunday, September 13, 2026. The line's operator, the LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency, has the closure posted on its travel advisories page, and its front-page News & Updates block reads, "No trains will operate due to track work between San Luis Obispo and San Diego."

A Saturday morning ticket from Los Angeles Union Station to San Diego gets no replacement train. It gets no bus bridge either. Amtrak Connection buses keep their usual routes across both days, according to Secret Los Angeles, which reported the shutdown on September 2, 2026. For those two days, there's no train to connect to them.

Secret Los Angeles describes a closure of the entire corridor. The outlet reported that the stoppage covers every station on the line, San Diego to San Luis Obispo. Among the stops going quiet it names Los Angeles, Anaheim, Irvine, San Juan Capistrano, Oceanside, Santa Barbara and Ventura.

The operator's own site says it two ways. The news block describes the whole line, San Luis Obispo to San Diego. A banner at the top of the same site describes something narrower: "No service between Los Angeles and San Diego 9/12-9/13, 2026." Both strings were on pacificsurfliner.com on September 2, 2026. Neither is posted as a correction of the other.

That matters most north of Union Station. A rider in Ventura or Santa Barbara reading the banner would take the closure for somebody else's problem. The news block on the same page says it isn't.

The Surfliner normally serves 29 stations along a 351-mile corridor, a figure the operator uses on its homepage. Two days off the whole of it is a different animal. The ordinary shape of track work here is one segment, one weekend.

The work is bundled deliberately. Secret Los Angeles reports that several operators are taking the same weekend to avoid repeated closures later. The jobs include a rerouting at Borrego Creek, the outlet reported, along with a new channel box built under the railroad just south of Irvine Station.

What isn't public yet is the detail. The operator's posting points to a "More info" page for specifics. Those detail pages weren't reachable as of September 2, 2026. That's why the banner-versus-body conflict can't be settled from the record as posted.

So the checkable part is the date. It's firm on both pages: Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13, 2026. The segment is where the operator disagrees with itself. Riders holding tickets on either day will be sorting that out with Amtrak, and the posted advisory sits on pacificsurfliner.com, banner and all.
