'Full Closure' on Agoura Road: Wildlife-Crossing Work Shuts It Weekdays Until Sept. 11

The freeway stays open. The road beneath the new crossing does not.

That distinction is the whole story for anyone who lives on this stretch of the western San Fernando Valley edge: the surface street that normally lets you skip the on-ramp is gone during working hours, and people who walk or ride that segment lose it outright. The City of Agoura Hills posted its own notice on Aug. 25, 2026, listed as "Full Closure Scheduled on Agoura Road for Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing Construction Activity."

What Caltrans announced, item by item

1. The closed segment. Agoura Road between Rondell Street and Hydepark Drive is fully closed during work hours — no motorists, no cyclists, no pedestrians through the segment, per Secret Los Angeles' report of the Caltrans announcement.
2. The dates. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026 through Friday, Sept. 11, 2026. The closure runs Monday through Friday only, the outlet reported.
3. The hours. 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on each closure day. Caltrans described the schedule as weather permitting and subject to change, per the same report.
4. The reason. Crews are taking down falsework, the temporary structure that held the crossing up over the freeway during construction.
5. The posted detour. Drivers are routed onto U.S. 101 between Chesebro Road and Liberty Canyon Road.
6. The shuttle. A free shuttle for people on foot or on a bike runs every 30 minutes during closure hours. Eastbound, it picks up at Dorothy Drive and Chesebro Road and drops at Liberty Canyon and Agoura Road; westbound reverses the same two points, the outlet reported.
7. The opening date. The crossing is scheduled to open Dec. 2, 2026. That is a scheduled date, not a guarantee, and neither the announcement as reported nor the city's notice commits to it.

What we could and could not verify

We pulled the Caltrans District 7 news index and found no posted release for the Agoura Road closure. The items on that list ran to Topanga Canyon work, paving on the 101 through Cahuenga Pass and sign work on State Route 91. So the limits, dates, hours, detour and shuttle stops above are Secret Los Angeles' account of what Caltrans announced, corroborated on the existence of the closure by the City of Agoura Hills' own listing — not language read off a Caltrans release.

Two things follow from that for anyone planning around it. First, the schedule Caltrans announced already carries its own hedge: weather permitting, subject to change. Second, if the dates move, the notice most likely to move first is the city's, which is where Agoura Hills posted this one on Aug. 25, 2026.

The crossing itself spans U.S. 101 at Liberty Canyon. Its cost and dimensions are not part of the closure announcement, and this piece does not carry figures the announcement did not.
