On May 1, a rally at MacArthur Park became a march to Grand Park downtown, with organizers calling for a broader "economic blackout" — urging people to skip work, school, and shopping — alongside longstanding demands for worker protections and immigration reform, per NBC Los Angeles and LAist.

MacArthur Park to Grand Park is one of the most storied protest routes in the city, and it says something that it still gets walked every year. Whatever you make of the specific demands, a city where May Day still fills a park is a city where civic muscle hasn't atrophied — and that's worth recording.
