Eat at the Original Swingers Before Its Silver Lake Copy Opens
The Beverly Boulevard original runs 8 a.m. to 3 a.m. daily; order the chilaquiles, the owner's own favorite.

Plaid booths, mosaic tile and wood paneling are headed for Sunset Boulevard, copied from a diner that first opened on Beverly Boulevard more than 30 years ago. Swingers is opening a second location in Silver Lake, starting with a takeout window on Tuesday, and the new room is being built to match the old one, Eater LA reported.
Silver Lake can wait. The original, at 8020 Beverly Blvd. in the Fairfax District, is open from 8 a.m. to 3 a.m. seven days a week, its website says. The room Silver Lake is copying is already there, and it doesn't close until 3.
It's a little remarkable that Swingers is expanding at all. The pandemic nearly ended it: the diner said goodbye in April 2020 and was back by that November, Eater LA noted, under a new owner, Stephanie Wilson, its former general manager and a staffer since 2010. Six years after that goodbye, she's opening a second one.
The diner sells its own room hard. Its About page lists a jukebox stocked with the Beastie Boys, Erykah Badu and the Beatles, a patio and a house motto: "Ass, cash or grass, nobody eats for free." The same page quotes the L.A. Times calling the place "a magnet for LA's young and attitudinal" after it opened.
Some of the fame is borrowed. The 1996 movie "Swingers" took its name from the diner but was filmed at the former 101 Coffee Shop, Eater LA noted, though the real Swingers did turn up in "Knocked Up" and "Insecure." The menu, at least, is all its own.
Start with the chilaquiles, which Wilson told Eater LA are her current favorite. The posted menu stacks house-made corn chips with black beans, queso fresco, avocado and pico de gallo, then two organic eggs or tofu on top.
Then order something only a diner would put on a menu. Edwin's Pasta tosses scrambled eggs with bow-tie pasta, bacon, sausage and parmesan, which is breakfast and dinner arguing on one plate. For the drive home, the Rocket Shake blends chocolate ice cream with a shot of espresso and espresso beans.
On Postmates, which the diner's homepage links for delivery, the Swinger Burger (a Harris Ranch patty with sautéed onions and herb garlic aioli) cost $18.15 on Friday. A short stack of buttermilk pancakes was $16.23.
The Silver Lake outpost is at 3200 W. Sunset Blvd., the old All Day Baby space, which Heavy Handed's smash burgers held from March 2025 until that shop closed this spring, Eater LA reported. Takeout runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, then 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. starting Wednesday, and the dining room is due in December. A tribute to Jonathan Whitener, the late All Day Baby chef, is on Wilson's wish list for the new menu, she told Eater LA.
"Small restaurants like ours are so important to the culture and the community of L.A.," Wilson told Eater LA. The original is for the after-show crowd, the vegan in the group and anybody who wants to sit in those plaid booths before Silver Lake gets its copies.
