Artemi Panarin Scores Against His Old Team as Kings Beat Rangers
Drew Doughty had three points and passed Dustin Brown for seventh on the Kings' all-time scoring list in a 6-3 win.

The Los Angeles Kings beat the New York Rangers 6-3 at Madison Square Garden on Monday, and Artemi Panarin scored against his old team along the way.
That's three wins in four games for a club that opened 0-4-2, NHL.com reported, and all four of those games came on the road, according to the Associated Press story carried by CBS New York. NHL.com has the Kings at 3-5-2, and 3-1-0 on a five-game trip that ends in Chicago on Tuesday.
The game turned in under five minutes. Taylor Ward, in his season debut, ran onto a Drew Doughty pass and scored on a breakaway at 1:15. At 4:52, Brandt Clarke tipped one in from the left post during a delayed penalty. The last time Los Angeles went two-for-two to start a game was Feb. 7, 2021, according to NHL.com's game notes.
Those two shots went in against James Reimer, a 38-year-old goalie who'd signed a one-year deal with the Rangers on Sunday. His only game action this fall came Saturday in the AHL, where he stopped all 35 shots he saw, the AP reported in its story on CBS New York. Reimer let three of eight shots past him, and Dylan Garand took over for the second period. "I put him in a tough spot and that's on me," Rangers coach Mike Sullivan said, according to NHL.com.
The shot counts were even. Reimer faced eight and Garand 17, by the AP's count on CBS New York, and Edmundson's empty-net goal made it 26 Kings shots. New York put 26 on Darcy Kuemper, who stopped 23 of them, NHL.com reported.
A shot total can't tell you how good the chances were, though: the Kings' list includes a clean breakaway and a tip from the post, while J.T. Miller's goal for New York at 13:01 of the first went in off his skate. The scoring reached deep into the lineup, too. NHL.com counted all 18 Los Angeles skaters on the ice for one or more of the six goals.
Doughty scored his first goal of the season 4 1/2 minutes after Miller's, one-timing a shot from the point at 17:32 to make it 3-1. He finished with a goal and two assists, his first three-point night since Feb. 22, 2025. Dustin Brown had held seventh place on the Kings' all-time list at 712 points, and Doughty's night left him at 713, according to NHL.com's notes. "I haven't had a night like that in a minute," Doughty said, NHL.com reported.
Garand had been in net for 90 seconds when Panarin, on the power play, beat him from the left faceoff circle for a 4-1 lead. It was Panarin's seventh goal, the team high, and he also had an assist, NHL.com reported. Mikey Anderson's slap shot off a faceoff made it 5-1 at 6:54.
Adam Fox, in his 500th NHL game, scored on a power play later in the period. With an extra attacker on, Tye Kartye made it 5-3 at 16:08 of the third, and Joel Edmundson put one into the empty net 29 seconds later.
The Rangers fell to 7-6-1, according to NHL.com. They've lost three straight, and this was their first home loss of the season, leaving them 6-1-0 at the Garden. They host Edmonton on Sunday.
The Kings don't have to wait that long. Coach Peter Laviolette pointed out that a win in Chicago would make the trip 4-1. "There's a lot to play for tomorrow and I think the guys know that," he said, according to NHL.com.
