A dance company that has performed in Paris and Beijing is playing Santa Monica this weekend, and a seat costs $20.

Santa Monica College's Global Motion World Dance Company takes The Eli & Edythe Broad Stage on Saturday and Sunday at 7:30 p.m., the Santa Monica Daily Press reported Tuesday. On the program: salsa, tap and an Indonesian piece called Saman, all danced by SMC students. One of the guest choreographers is Christopher "Mayhem" Martinez, a street dancer from Boyle Heights.

Advance tickets are $20 plus a service fee at smc.edu/tickets, and $23 plus a service fee at the box office the day of the show. Parking is free and seats are first-come. The theater is at 1310 11th St. at Santa Monica Boulevard, and the college's dance calendar has both shows ending at 9 p.m. The school's other company, Synapse Contemporary Dance Theater, takes the same stage Nov. 14 and 15.

The troupe goes back more than half a century, to Judith Douglas, who once chaired the college's dance department. These days a professional costumer, Patricia Oliva, makes a fresh set of costumes by hand every season.
