Your Dog Can Get a Free '90s-Style Walmart Holiday Portrait in Burbank
Sign up online first, and bring a $5 Pedigree receipt if you want the keepsake ornament.

The Walmart Family Portrait Studio is back for two days in Burbank, and this time the dog is the one in the holiday sweater.
Pedigree and Walmart are setting up the Pedigree Pawliday Portrait Studio at the Burbank Walmart, 1301 N. Victory Place, on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to the companies' Oct. 27 announcement. The session is free and run by a professional photographer, and you walk away with digital files. Burbank is the first of five stops. After this, the studio heads to Arizona, Texas and Arkansas.
The props are the whole point: holiday sweaters and headwear, matching outfits for pets and their people, and a holiday backdrop the dog-food brand itself calls over-the-top. '90s star and TV host Alfonso Ribeiro is the face of the campaign and posed for his own portraits with his dogs, Aksel and Ace. It's nostalgia sold as a photo op, but the photo really is free.
Here's the catch: you have to sign up first on the brand's Pedigree Pawliday website, PedigreePawliday.com. If you want the embossed ornament with your dog's portrait on it, bring proof that you bought at least $5 of Pedigree products. The ornaments go while supplies last, and so do the free samples and biscuits. Can't make either day? Take your own portrait at home and enter the brand's sweepstakes. No purchase is needed, and the prize is a hand-painted copy of your dog's portrait plus a year of Pedigree dog food. Secret Los Angeles flagged the Burbank shoot.
The second free thing is louder. The Santa Monica College Percussion Ensemble plays a free concert at 1 p.m. Friday in the Music Hall at the SMC Performing Arts Center, 1310 11th St. at Santa Monica Boulevard, the Santa Monica Daily Press reported Monday. SMC music instructor Megumi Smith conducts a program the Daily Press describes as a bold mix of styles.
Parking's free, but seats go to whoever gets there first. The Daily Press notes that shows can change or be canceled without notice, so call 310-434-4323 before you head over. The bigger catch is the time: 1 p.m. on a Friday.
The dog studio runs both days, so you don't have to choose. Catch the drums Friday and bring the dog Saturday.
