Noah Wyle Is People's Sexiest Man Alive at 55. Only Three Were Older.
The 'Pitt' star joins his 'ER' co-star George Clooney and 'Grey's Anatomy' alum Patrick Dempsey on the list of winners.

Noah Wyle first put on TV scrubs as John Carter, a medical student on NBC's "ER." Some three decades and one more emergency room later, People has named him its Sexiest Man Alive. He's 55.
It's the first time Wyle has gotten the title, Variety reported Tuesday, and he told People the news sounded like a prank. Then he played with the idea for a second: "I hope it's just wine and roses, milk and honey from here on out," he told the magazine, then laughed and took it back with "No, I don't." What he does expect is plenty of teasing from friends and family.
At 55, he's among the oldest men ever to get the title. Only three were older when they got the cover: Sean Connery at 59 in 1989, Patrick Dempsey at 57 in 2023 and Harrison Ford at 56 in 1998, Yahoo Entertainment noted. The run started in 1985 with Mel Gibson, who was 29, according to AARP.
The cover also has a soft spot for the hospital. Most fans knew Dempsey as McDreamy, the neurosurgeon Derek Shepherd on ABC's "Grey's Anatomy," AARP pointed out when he won. Wyle's "ER" co-star George Clooney won twice, in 1997 and 2006, Good Morning America noted. Back in the '90s, the two even shared a "Sexy Men of ER" cover of People, Yahoo reported. Clooney got the solo crown first, and Wyle waited.
Clooney had been lobbying for him. At the AARP Movies for Grownups Awards in January, Clooney suggested, as a joke, that AARP run a "sexiest man still alive" issue, with Wyle as his first nominee. "When I grow up, I want to be Noah Wyle," Clooney said, Variety reported.
Wyle got the cover at the peak of a second act. He won back-to-back Emmys for lead actor in a drama, in 2025 and 2026, playing Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, a disgruntled attending physician, on HBO's "The Pitt," and won a Golden Globe for the role this year. Only four actors before him had won that Emmy for a series' opening two seasons, the last being Bryan Cranston with "Breaking Bad" in 2009, Yahoo reported, citing Variety. He also directs the series, GMA reported.
The bettors had called it. Wyle went into the reveal at 79% on both Kalshi and Polymarket, and the oddsmaker OLBG's next favorite was Bad Bunny, Yahoo reported. Not everyone is convinced. "Was Bad Bunny unavailable?" one Instagram commenter asked, according to Yahoo.
Wyle says he took the title for his wife, Sara Wells. She was "very pleased that this confers well on her taste," he told People, GMA reported, and she believes the kind of husband and father he is deserves the spotlight. "She's the reason I accepted," he said.
