Laemmle's $7 Tuesday Beats AMC's Half-Off Movie Nights in L.A.
Ranked by the cheapest standard adult ticket on each chain's cheapest night, with every fee the chain posts counted in.

Laemmle wins, and it isn't close. On Tuesdays every show at Laemmle Theatres costs $7, first screening to last, according to the chain's Tuesday page.
That's half of Laemmle's own adult price for Monday through Thursday, which is $14, and well under the $17 it charges on weekends, according to its posted price list, last updated June 12. Kids pay $11 on a normal weeknight. On a Tuesday they pay $7 like everyone else.
Laemmle's senior matinee runs $8, weekdays before 6 p.m. So on a Tuesday, the chain's best senior deal is the one with no age limit.
The fine print is short. Films in a series or a festival, and anything marked "SE" for special engagement, get their own prices, sometimes higher, and the Tuesday page adds that some restrictions apply. Laemmle doesn't list an online booking fee on its price list or its Tuesday page.
AMC is second. It offers more nights, but the price is harder to pin down. Fun With Kids in LA reports that participating AMC theaters halve the adult evening base price on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, all day, for anyone signed into AMC Stubs, though special events are excluded and some movies and holiday periods may be. The free Insider level counts, and a member can buy as many as 10 tickets per show date. Each AMC theater sets its own base price. The family guide works it out to about $8 where the evening ticket is $16 and $9 where it's $18, and Yahoo Entertainment put it at around $9 a person.
Then come the costs that half off doesn't touch. Online convenience fees and sales tax aren't discounted, and IMAX, Dolby Cinema, PRIME and RealD 3D surcharges are charged in full on top of the cheap base ticket, Fun With Kids in LA reports, though Yahoo Entertainment says only standard adult evening tickets get the discount, not IMAX. Insiders skip the online fee only when they buy four or more tickets at once.
My hot take, and I'll defend it: one cheap night beats two pricier ones. Even the family guide's lower example, $8, is a dollar more than Laemmle's flat $7 before any fee goes on, and the AMC number depends on which theater you pick. The Laemmle number is right there on its price list. A second discount night is a nice perk. It doesn't make the ticket any cheaper.
Regal, Cinemark and Alamo Drafthouse aren't ranked, because their current L.A. discount-night prices couldn't be confirmed.
The next Laemmle Tuesday is Nov. 3. It's seven dollars, unless the film is part of a series or festival or the listing says SE.
