How this page works

Every morning the Globe reads the public records Los Angeles publishes and sorts them by the place each record names. Nothing on the lists above is written by a model or guessed from a headline; each line says what the record says, on the record's own date, and links to it.

This page covers the Central Hollywood, Hollywood Studio District, Hollywood United neighborhood council areas and ZIP codes 90028, 90038, 90068. A record lands here only when it names one of those councils or, when it names no council, one of those ZIP codes.

  • Being built: the City's plans filed and permits issued, from the L.A. Department of Building and Safety. "Plans filed" means plans went in; it does not mean a building is coming. Plans change and some never get built.
  • Filed to open: California ABC's daily report of new liquor-license applications (Los Angeles County), the City's register of active businesses (restaurants, cafes and bars registered by a company, never a person) and changes of use into a restaurant. When two records name one address they sit together; that is all it means. An application can be protested, withdrawn or denied.
  • This weekend: the City's temporary special-event permits (only events whose permitted name says they are public: a carnival, a festival, a market — never a wedding, a party, a film shoot or anything at a house), and the L.A. Public Library's own program listings, placed by each branch's address. Freeway closures join when Caltrans' data portal lets our reader in.
  • Houses, duplexes and backyard units are counted, never listed by address. We name businesses, developers and agencies, never private people.
