Altadena's Public Pool Is Free on Saturdays Through September 30

Loma Alta Park Pool in Altadena is still filled, and the Saturday afternoon swim there is free through September 30, 2026. The extended season opened August 24 under a one-time grant from Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Secret Los Angeles reported. Put a Saturday on the calendar before the month runs out.

That's worth knowing if you're the one who's been driving a kid across town to a locked gate. The county's regular seasonal pool schedule ended August 15. Castaic Lake and Hansen Dam both closed their swim seasons on Labor Day, the outlet reported, so this pool has water in it while other county seasonal sites don't.

Here's the extended-season schedule, per Secret Los Angeles:

• Monday through Friday, 8 to 10 a.m., then 2 to 7 p.m.
• Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Free recreational swim, the county's Every Body Swims program: Saturdays, 12:30 to 4 p.m.

No Sunday hours are listed.

One wrinkle earns a phone call first. The county's own Every Body Swims page puts free rec swim at 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays countywide, and says the program started August 30. That's 90 minutes shorter than the free window Secret Los Angeles lists for Loma Alta, and the county page doesn't say when it was last updated. Call before you load the car.

Everything outside that Saturday block costs something. Fees of $7 and $8 appear for lap swim, water exercise and swim lessons, the outlet reported. Ask which one applies to the session you want.

The pool sits inside Loma Alta Park at 3330 N. Lincoln Ave., Altadena, CA 91001. The park runs 24 acres, with a recreation center, a playground, basketball courts and sports fields, so whoever isn't swimming has somewhere to be.

Free after 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays. The last Saturday of the extended season is September 26.
